The poet Timothy Muskat on the notion of “home”
Sunday, September 28th, at 4 p.m:

Tim will read a selection of his poems from four-plus decades of what he calls “poem-work.” He promises that nearly all of them will address, reference, touch on, or allude to the ever-elusive and ver-provocative notion of  "home."

As one who has had the reasonably good fortune to have lived most of his life (there were two exceptions, to be mentioned only within this parenthesis) with a roof literally over his head, I can also say with a balancing-out matter-of-factness that I have never known what it is to have, or be part of, a bona fide home. The word itself appears every now and then in one of my poems, and whatever significance or “meaning” might be assigned to it I leave entirely to my readers. My “homelessness” being what it is, I will add without equivocation that I take both solace and refuge in a quote attributed to a favorite poet of mine, Czeslaw Milosz: “Language is the only homeland.” Solace because that construct of language we call a poem provides, when it is truly a poem, a home-ness, particularly on a psychic plane; and refuge because, well, without language (you’ll have to trust me on this) I’d be homeless in every possible way.

Anne McMillan is a book, mixed media, and fiber artist. A collector of found objects that she uses as inspiration for her work by incorporating them into books and using them to convey a story.
Her art is an eclectic mix of my life, reflecting where she has been and where she wants to go—incorporating natural materials with traditional structures. It is a fusion of elements that creates a tactile and immersive experience, inviting you to explore the layers or pages of the work.
She has exhibited her work throughout New England and taught book arts workshops for the last several years in New Hampshire. Currently, she is an instructor at the Kimball Jenkins Art School.
