Since 1969, Mayhew has issued a life-changing challenge to almost 2,000 at-risk New Hampshire boys:
Find Your Best.
Mayhew serves boys from low-income, predominantly single-parent families. Boys with few positive role models. While only 10 or 11 years old at enrollment, they are already making choices and exhibiting behaviors that have their families, school counselors, and other community members deeply concerned and searching for ways to help.
Mayhew is the only all-boys program in New Hampshire combining a residential summer experience and mentoring throughout the school year. For each boy, Mayhew is an opportunity to discover – perhaps for the first time – his inherent worth and how much he can do. When he returns to home and school, the support of Mayhew is right there with him – through regular staff visits, helping him to live by the four cornerstones of the program: Responsibility, Respect, Community and Challenge. The program continues in this way for each boy, tuition-free, for eight years.
