The lakes gallery at chi-lin features fine contemporary New England and Asian art through online exhibitions and in an intimate gallery space. After 30 years in Meredith in 2015 it relocated to the 1780 farmhouse with beautiful old gardens where the gallery originally began in 1981.
The new gallery space opened in 2017 with four exhibits across the state of Helen Nicolay,
daughter of John Nicolay Lincoln’s Secretary. Her oils and watercolors were featured at the Fells,
the Holderness Historical Society, the Nicolay home in Holderness and the Holderness School.
Since then, with the exception of 2020, chi-lin has offered a large selection of artwork for commercial spaces and intimate pieces for lakeside homes within a setting of fine vernacular Asian antiques and collectibles. Rotating exhibits of contemporary art are offered year round.
The gallery is open by appointment in the winter, January—March, featuring new art and artists.
Regular hours begin in the spring, expanding as the summer begins with regular exhibits over
the summer and fall. A special garden—oriented show is scheduled in July to complement
our gardens inclusion as part of the Opechee Garden Club Tour on the 16th.
Intimate poetry readings are held in a beautiful traditional dinning room or outdoors.
Small workshops in calligraphy and nature studies are held in the studio and in partnership
with others in larger venues. Professional calligraphy services are available through the Studio.
