Sam Lawrence, a native of Yarmouth, Maine started working in glass in 2002. After seeing a show of glass art in western Massachusetts and a glassblowing demonstration in Murano, Italy, Sam knew he wanted to be a glass artist. During his senior year in high school he took several glass blowing and bead making classes through the continuing studies program at Maine College of Art. He went on to study art in college where he hoped to major in glass. In 2005, at the beginning of his sophmore year, Sam suffered a near fatal traumatic brain injury in a skateboarding accident. Beating the odds he survived, coming home after several weeks in a coma and many months in various hospitals. Within a month of his return home he was back working at his torch. Today, Sam continues his remarkable recovery as well as his commitment to his craft and making beautiful glasswork.
