MARGARET LAWRENCE
The Grace of Nature's August
A time for positive thinking ahead
Inspired by images gathered from diverse sources,
my paintings are developed by removing paint
as much as by applying it.
Through this layering, the give and take of the paint,
an image emerges that holds a story or marks time.
While my past work has been predominantly informed
by nature and the cycle of life,
new sources of intrigue include—
real and imagined landscapes
old walls
bridges
ice flows.
In support of this work
I have looked to a variety of books about ancient cultures,
wabi sabi, the Japanese art of impermanence
and global folk tales.
